In order to compete in the global economy, Japanese government and companies are devoting to the development of women’s workplace support policies and practices in order to keep women establish their career. The issue of helping female employees attain work-life balance has become very important in Japan.
Based on CSR approach, this article analyzed surveys conducted in Japan, China and Taiwan regarding women’s perception and motivation toward their work. It was found that, compared with China and Taiwan, women in Japan are more negative about their career promotion and life-work balance in companies and they are lowly motivated toward their work after getting married or having children due to the lack of support from their family. Since supporting female workers has been regarded as an important CSR strategy in Japan, the author suggests that not only supportive policies and practices are needed but also the support to build women’s strong will to overcome difficulties in their career life is needed.
